Why we created a Foundation for our Communities

Our small businesses in the Lake Lure, Chimney Rock, Bat Cave, Bill’s Creek, Rumbling Bald, and Gerton areas have suffered extensive damage or loss not only physically to their buildings, but also the damage of loss of tourism and visitors to our gorgeous areas of North Carolina. For some of the communities, they are completely cut off from their adjoining communities. FEMA only offers very little help to businesses in these catastrophic situations. There’s assistance for residents and home owners, but the small businesses, the foundation of our communities, are not getting the Federal assistance needed to help either completely rebuild or to maintain their business(s). The options for SBA loans are available but this also poses the burden a loan (or another loan) for a business that has already lost so much revenue, employees, and even land to rebuild on. Our Foundation for Lake Lure and Chimney Rock Area Businesses has been established to directly assist current business owners. Consider this Foundation as “adopting a town” to help

RISE, BUILD, and THRIVE.

Our Foundation's Story a 501(c)(3)

In September 2024, Hurricane Helene swept through our beloved Lake Lure, Chimney Rock, and Bat Cave areas, leaving devastation that uprooted businesses and livelihoods. Our community's natural beauty and charm were met with an outpouring of support from neighbors near and far—people eager to donate, volunteer, and help in any way they could.

As locals navigating the chaos ourselves however, we quickly realized that efforts to aid recovery were fragmented and splintered. Without a unified focus, the community's needs struggled to be fully met. It became clear that a centralized organization was needed—one that could bring people, resources, and vision together to rebuild what was lost and sustain it for the future.

This realization inspired a group of passionate locals, residents, and supporting organizations to create a foundation for Lake Lure and Chimney Rock area businesses. Together, we share a deep connection to this area as residents, business owners, volunteers, and admirers of its unique spirit.

Our mission is simple yet vital: The mission of The Foundation for Lake Lure/Chimney Rock Area Businesses is to enhance and ensure the long-term sustainability and resilience in the communities of Lake Lure, Chimney Rock, Bat Cave, and the surrounding areas.

With a shared vision, inspiring partnerships, and the incredible support of those who love this area as much as we do, we are committed to helping our community Rise, Build, and Thrive through The Foundation for Lake Lure/Chimney Rock Area Businesses.
